who’s behind this, and why it exists
About.
Epoch/Works is a small, independent site with one job: making Unix timestamps easy to read, write and understand. It started as a personal tool for decoding timestamps in logs and API responses without having to remember whether a number was in seconds or milliseconds, and grew into a converter and a set of guides.
What you’ll find here
The converter turns epoch timestamps into human-readable dates and back, detects seconds, milliseconds, microseconds and nanoseconds automatically, and shows every result in your local time zone, UTC and ISO 8601. The guides explain the concepts behind it — from what Unix time is to the Year 2038 problem — with examples for the languages and tools people actually use.
How it works
Every conversion runs in your browser. Nothing you type is sent to a server or stored, so it’s safe to paste timestamps from production logs or private data. There are no accounts and no sign-up.
Accuracy
The converter relies on your browser’s built-in date handling, which follows the same conventions as virtually every programming language: UTC-based, with leap seconds ignored. The guides are written and checked by hand, and corrected when readers point out mistakes.
